Poker Prop Betting to Hit Casinos

Prop Betting has always been a part of poker. In fact, the WSOP won’t be complete without the crazy prop bets that the pros usually partake in. this time, though, the Nevada casinos have decided to cash in on this poker tradition and make it widely available to everyone and anyone. They’re going to call it ‘event betting’, which is just like sports betting, only that the topic will be based on various events, not necessarily limited to poker.

About Event Betting

The Nevada Gaming Control Board and Las Vegas Bookmakers are still trying to get this new feature passed, which could take any amount of time. But when and if they do succeed, we’re going to have a whole new adventure on our hands: event betting. Basically, what happens in event betting is that people will place their wagers on the outcomes of various non sporting events. Of course, if you think that non-sporting has a very wide, and therefore confusing, scope, it’s totally understandable. The scope really is wide – people can bet on anything from the outcomes of their favorite reality shows, award shows, and of course, poker. But, as mentioned, implementing these new features will probably take a while. In fact, don’t expect Event Betting to appear this year. If it’s ever going to come out, it’s probably going to be on 2012. There are still lots of kinks to smooth out, especially in terms of the rules and regulations.

Implications on Poker

So, what does this new feature spell out for our beloved game, you ask? It’s really simple. Think of it this way: if you ever found yourself wishing that you could be part of that whole prop bet that occurred last year with Tom Dwan almost winning a WSOP bracelet, then this feature will be your wish come true. You could get right into the middle of the action by placing bets on who will win tournaments or bracelets or what not. You can even take it a step further and bet on who will finish deeper on a tournament. Poker players are probably going to eat this new feature up. It’s nothing new, really, considering that online betting sites have been facilitating prop bets for a while now. But to see it in a Nevada casino is a different matter altogether. It adds a whole new dimension to the concept, and makes everything just a bit more challenging.
